The Integrated Photonics Systems Roadmap – International (IPSR-I) 2020 is available now

ipsr-i 2020

The roadmap is a joint initiative of the AIM Academy and PhotonDelta, with the objective to establish and sustain a trust based global network of industrial and R&D partners, who are working together on defining and creating future PIC technology and systems requirements. Big tech companies would do wise to follow developments in photonics closely – Interview with Dan Holladay, BRIDG

Big tech companies would do wise to follow developments in photonics closely – Interview with Dan Holladay, BRIDG

Dan Holladay is executive director of operations and technology programs at BRIDG, an open innovation platform for the semiconductor industry based in the US. Last year he signed a partnership with PhotonDelta in Eindhoven to exchange knowledge, skills and talent in photonics and semiconductor technology.

Holladay has great hope for photonics to bring the world into the ‘terabit era’ when sensors will be infinitely cheaper and higher resolution than they are now. “Think Star Trek or the Jetsons,” he says. “It’s going to be real science fiction.”

On the 26th of September Dan Holladay will speak at the Photonics Integration Conference at High Tech Campus Eindhoven about how innovation platforms can help scale up manufacturing in photonics.

How is photonics going to change technology?
“Photonics will produce new sensor technologies that are needed to enable breakthroughs in fields like robotics, health care, autonomous systems like driverless cars, and food quality. Once photonics devices are integrated and apps are written around them, that’s what’s really going to grow the Internet of Things.” Continue reading “Big tech companies would do wise to follow developments in photonics closely – Interview with Dan Holladay, BRIDG”

Photonic Integration Conference 2017 welcomes PhotonDelta as Exhibition Partner

PhotonDelta

Photonic Integration Conference 2017 welcomes PhotonDelta as Exhibition Partner. The event takes place on 26 September 2017, High Tech Campus Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

About PhotonDelta
PhotonDelta is recognised as one of European leading innovation hubs. We are establishing three pillars under PhotonDelta:
•The Institute of Photonic Integration builds on 40 years of optics research at TU/e – in cooperation with other nanotechnology centres like Mesa+ at the University of Twente and Saxion University of Applied Sciences.
•PhotonDelta has officially launched the Co-operative, a consortium of scale-ups, manufacturers and investors. The goal is to build win-win situations for members, including early access to Research IP.
•The Photonics Integration technology centre is currently being established, branching out on Europe-wide work done in circuits and components by the JePPIX consortium. Domains on processing, packaging, prototyping, building block development, and testing are currently being considered. Photonic Integration Technology Center – Presented by Ewit Roos, PhotonDelta

Ewit Roos

Photonic Integration Technology Center – Presented by Ewit Roos, PhotonDelta at the 3rd edition of the Photonic Integration Conference, on September 26, 2017, at High Tech Campus Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

PhotonDelta sees the need for a Photonic Integration Technology Center. They do this as a result of among other things the World Technology Mapping Forum what is held in June in Den Bosch. PhotonDelta sees the necessity for further development of technology based on the knowledge developed in the universities and in the industry.

About Ewit Roos
Ewit Roos is since January 2016 managing director of PhotonDelta in which he is responsible for international positioning, further strengthening and developing the ecosystem in which industry, SME and knowledge institutes cooperate to develop and commercialize integrated photonics applications. Before this position he was as of 2011 managing director of BrightMove. Aside from his MD role, Roos advises both national and regional governments and public bodies on early stage funding topics and is involved in several funding companies and initiatives. Roos started his career in with Waste Management Inc. where he became responsible for corporate affairs and business development in The Netherlands. After 6 years of corporate work, he started a new IT recycling activity in the Waste Management group. Continue reading “Photonic Integration Technology Center – Presented by Ewit Roos, PhotonDelta”

“PhotonDelta 2017 – The next phase begins!” – Ewit Roos, PhotonDelta

“PhotonDelta 2017 – The next phase begins!” – presented by Ewit Roos, PhotonDelta, at Photonic Integration Conference, Sep 27, 2016, High Tech Campus Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

The European Photonics market is now worth around €70 billion. Grant funding to support research and innovation in SME’s has grown to reach €100M a year. But PhotonDelta argues that a more collaborative approach is the way to ensure European photonics gets 10-20 times the funding we see today. In his talk, Ewit Roos will outline extensive plans to assist photonics companies and related supply chains accelerate their time to market. He will explain why the new PhotonDelta cooperative is offering early access to IP as well as organising deep-dive strategy workshops to construct long-term technology roadmaps. There’s a ‘light on a chip’ revolution coming and Europe is in the lead

Demand for bandwidth is exploding

It’s tough being a data center these days. Demand for bandwidth is exploding. Every second, two households are connected to the Internet, and the amount of data doubles for each connection every 18 months. In 2016, over a billion smartphones will be sold worldwide, and each device needs access to a data center.

Silicon Valley, we have a problem. Continue reading “There’s a ‘light on a chip’ revolution coming and Europe is in the lead”
