Matthijs Langelaar, TU Delft, Presents: "Robust design optimization for integrated photonic systems"

In the field of integrated photonics, uncertainties in fabricated device geometries as well as environmental parameters can dramatically affect performance and yield. To overcome this challenge, this project has developed approaches that allow simulation-based optimization of designs under uncertainties, resulting in robust designs. We have placed emphasis on combining this concept with metamodeling techniques and adaptive infill sampling strategies, to reduce the total computational effort and allow practical application. In this brief presentation, the general approach is introduced together with an overview of the outcomes of the project.
