About Jan Mengelers

Jan Mengelers has presided over the Executive Board of Eindhoven University of Technology since 2014. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from TU/e in 1979 and then joined the Energy research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN) as a scientific researcher. Between 1982 and 1984 he did scientific research at Philips Natlab before moving to Nedcar where he worked in various management roles from 1984 to 1997, the last four years as Managing Director, Product Design & Engineering. TU/e is on the eve of crucial choices. Choices in terms of focus, strategy, education and research. In this time of rising student numbers, receding government funding and boundless scientific collaboration, the university is compelled to set out a very clear profile. TU/e is doing this in part through three Strategic Areas: Smart Mobility, Energy and Health. And via its research centers, the High Tech Systems Center and the Data Science Center Eindhoven. But also via a number of renowned institutes: the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems and the Intelligent Light Institute. And now an important branch joins them: the Integrated Photonics Institute.

Jan Mengelers provides a glimpse and a preview of the technology profile of TU/e as a science and engineering plus university.
