The lecture will provide an overview of the ACTPHAST initiative, which is a one-stop-shop solution for supporting world-beating photonics innovation by European companies, particularly SMEs where the support is 100 % subsidized. By mobilizing task forces of the best photonics experts and technologies from European’s top universities and research institutes ACTPHAST endavours to meet each company’s individual challenge in innovating with photonics to exploit major new business growth opportunities across many application domains from manufacturing, transport and energy to life sciences, communications and computing, and many more.
About Hugo Thienpont
Hugo Thienpont coordinates the Brussels Photonics Team of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, a group of 60 researchers that focuses on photonics research and innovation. He coordinates large European networking projects and manages photonics industry projects. Since 2012 he is Vice-Rector for Innovation and Industrial policy of Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
Photonics Research at B-Phot, under the leadership of Prof. Hugo Thienpont, has been active in the field of micro-photonics for more than 20 years.
With its micro-optical design platform, its polymer optics prototyping platform, and its large-scale micro-optical measurement centre in clean room conditions B-Phot is currently among the world-leaders in optical modelling, optical characterization, low-cost rapid prototyping , and proof-of-concept demonstration of micro-optical modules. B-PHOT has research collaboration agreements with top-level research groups worldwide, and industrial innovation projects with a variety of European companies.
