On September 23rd, 2015, The Photonic Integration Conference took place at High Tech Campus, in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

The conference was an overwhelming success, attracting over 100 delegates, speakers and sponsors from many countries. The conference provided great intellectual and social interaction for the participants.

Who was there to speak?

The seminar included a wide variety of topics around photonics and photonic integration. Speakers from U.S. Department of Energy, Glyndwr University, Eindhoven University of Technology, JePPIX, ACTPHAST, SMART Photonics, VLC Photonics, Fraunhofer IMS, Radio Communications Agency of the Netherlands, Invenios and Photonics NL succeeded in inspiring the international attendees with their thorough and documented presentations.

What happened?

Speakers and participants lined up to showcase and discuss the enterprises, startups and research taking Integrated Photonics to the next level in the following areas:

  • Photonic integration, including the development of generic integration platforms and foundry models
  • Integration of photonics with microelectronics at the chip, board and system levels
  • Exploitation of new materials, including new semiconductors and nanophotonic materials (for example, metamaterials & plasmonics), multifunctional fibres and their associated fabrication technologies
  • How new approaches lower the entry level of photonic integration. Companies can create applications for markets like: optical sensing, lighting & energy, displays, information technology, telecom, healthcare & life science, security & defence, robotic manufacturing processes.

News and opinions were shared during presentations on interesting topics such as:

During the conference Smart Photonics announced the opening of a second manufacturing facility, located in a special clean room at High Tech Campus. Photon Delta also announced a new institute to help Eindhoven take a leading role in photonics.

Throughout the day, the visitors were actively networking around the exhibition, where Finetech, Standa, Diamond Kimberlit, High Tech NL, JePPIX, EPIC, PNO Consultants and Technogation had decorated stands.
